JUNGLE JAM

28th November 2008, Leeds West Indian Centre

On a cold night at the end of November, 600 eager Junglists (+ a banana, a chilli and a whole bunch of costumed ravers) braved the weather to descend upon the eagerly awaited second Jungle Jam at the West Indian Centre. A few
problems with headphones and UK immigration weren't enough to stop the crowd from getting straight on it, cutting it up to the sounds of The Others early on in the Zoo Room, while the main Jungle compound brought the dark sounds of Central Beatz to the masses.

Rinsing out the sounds and bringing the Jungle good and proper, DJ Frenzy treated the crowd to some classic bangers, followed by Leeds' very own Alpha Drive, who laid down some of their bouncy breakbeat laced with a generous dollop of dub for good measure. The night was already going strong before the big hitters of the evening entered the building, bringing with them a shed load of drama. Due to a passport and visa fiasco KJ Sawka didn't make it into the country, while Kenny Ken left his records in a Mini in London. Yet despite the setbacks the crowd didn't falter, going ape when Kenny Ken dropped Remarc's R.I.P and showing the night's headliner, UK Apache, a hot and humid welcome.

The original nuttah stepped up the pace even more, leaving a rather sweaty and shell-shocked crowd howling for more after a punishing one hour set - probably one of his last outings after more than 14 years on the scene. The night went with a bang, with a few lessons learned that will make the next outing bigger and badder than ever before. The next Jungle Jam is already in the pipeline for February 2009, with Jungle HQ hard at work on some extra special décor and lighting for all you Jungle VIPs this time we want to see more bananas, more monkeys and lots more sweaty costume action! Jungle 4 life.

KJ SAWKA @ JUNGLE JAM!

28th November 2008, Leeds West Indian Centre

Jungle Jam is back for more amen antics at the legendary West Indian Centre and what a fine line up it has unleashed. By far, the most exciting act of the night will be the human drum machine, aka KJ Sawka, who will soon be flying all the way over from Seattle to bless the Leeds music scene and Jungle Jam with his presence.
